Helping New Neighbours Stay Warm

Moonlight Foundation will be helping Syrian refugees keep warm this winter. Winter boots, snow pants and jackets are amongst the items being given to the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada for the Welcome Project this December, to prepare our new neighbours for the chilly winter ahead.

Nearly 3000 items of clothing have been donated to Moonlight since August 2015,  by Mr. Su, a manufacturer and owner of a clothing outlet in Taiwan. Originally, he was going to sell the clothing to Moonlight, however, upon learning about where and why the purchase was being made, he decided to donate the clothing to help spread the warmth of kindness.

“You guys [Moonlight] are doing a good deed, and will be continuing to do so, I would like to chip in,” he said.

Over 800 pieces of clothing arrived in PEI just in time to fill the Christmas Hampers at the Salvation Army in Summerside and Charlottetown. Due to such great timing, Moonlight has been able to also donate items to the Welcome Project for our new neighbours coming from Syria.

Between 2012 and 2014 Moonlight donated a total of 3626 new winter coats, 2664 pairs of new snow boots and 2474 pairs of socks to food banks across the Island for families in need.
